Handmade Silk Ties: Printed in England, Hand-Stitched in Italy
When we started Oliver Jorg, we knew we wanted to create ties that felt different - in both their design and how they were made.
For us, a tie should be more than an accessory. It should be thoughtfully designed, carefully made, and built to stay in your wardrobe for years so it feels worth keeping.
That is why every Oliver Jorg tie begins in England, then goes to Italy to be hand-stitched and finished, combining design quality with skilled making.
It Starts With the Design
Every Oliver Jorg tie starts with an idea.
Much of our inspiration comes from British heritage, horse racing, equestrian sport and the countryside - whether that is a jockey's colours, a piece of traditional riding equipment or something spotted during a day at the races.
We develop those ideas into repeating patterns, paying close attention to colour, scale, and positioning.
Before a new design reaches production, we work through digital mock-ups and physical strike-offs, since seeing a design printed on silk matters. Colours can behave very differently on fabric than on a screen.
Sometimes a colour needs adjusting. Sometimes a motif's scale needs adjusting. These details may seem minor, but they can completely change the character of the finished tie.
We would rather spend more time getting those details right than rush a design into production.
Printed in England
Once the design is approved, we print it on our 36oz silk twill in England.
Keeping this stage of production in England is particularly important to us. Oliver Jorg is a British brand, and we're proud to be part of the long history of silk printing and textile craftsmanship here, because it helps give our ties their character and quality.
Printing on silk requires precision. Colours need the right depth and clarity, while the finer details in our patterns need to stay crisp.
This is especially important with Oliver Jorg designs, many of which feature small, intricate motifs.
The result is silk with the weight, texture, and richness we want in a tie that feels substantial from the start and supports the finished tie's quality.
Then to Italy
Once printed, the silk travels to Italy, where it is transformed from printed cloth into an Oliver Jorg tie.
Skilled makers hand-stitch and finish each tie.
We particularly like combining these two traditions: British design and silk printing, followed by Italian tie-making craftsmanship.
It means the process takes longer than mass-producing a tie in one factory, but speed has never been our priority; quality and finish are.
The finished tie needs to feel right in the hand, sit properly when worn, and create a well-proportioned knot. You notice these details every time you wear it.
Why We Use 36oz Silk
A tie's quality begins with the material.
We use 100% 36oz silk twill across our collections. It gives our ties a substantial, luxurious feel without being overly heavy, making the tie feel more refined from the start.
It also works particularly well with the detailed patterns that have become part of the Oliver Jorg identity.
When you pick up one of our ties, we want the quality of the silk to be immediately noticeable - before you have even tied it.
Made Slowly, Made Properly
There are quicker and cheaper ways to produce a tie.
For Oliver Jorg, maintaining the quality of the finished product matters more than producing as much as possible, as quickly as possible, because that quality is what sets the tie apart.
From developing the original artwork and checking strike-offs in England to printing the silk and sending it to Italy for hand-finishing, many stages go into what looks like a simple product.
That's part of what makes it worth wearing: the tie offers more than appearance alone.
When someone wears an Oliver Jorg tie to Royal Ascot, a wedding, a day at the races, a dinner, or simply with their favourite suit, we want it to feel worth wearing.
Not something designed for one occasion and then forgotten, but something that can become part of a wardrobe - and hopefully collect a few stories along the way.
Designed and printed in England. Hand-stitched in Italy. Made to be worn and remembered.
That isn't simply a line we put underneath our name. It is an important part of what Oliver Jorg offers and why it matters to the people who wear our ties.
